Brock Forkey’s entrepreneurial story involves ambition, resilience, and strategic growth. From a young age, he was drawn to creating his success, selling items as a child, and eventually realizing that working for someone else wasn’t for him. By the age of 23, he was self-employed, a decision that set him on a path to becoming a real estate mogul.
After high school, Brock entered the construction industry, focusing on asbestos removal. At 22, he was making what many considered an impressive income. But it was a conversation on a job site that changed everything. Hearing an older coworker discuss rental properties piqued his interest, and he began an intense self-education process, reading every book and magazine he could find on real estate investing. Nine months later, he purchased his first property. Within a year, he refinanced his second property and accessed additional funds. Less than two years into his real estate journey, he had acquired multiple properties, numerous rental units, and a laundromat.
In 2006, Brock transitioned into property flipping, purchasing, renovating, and selling hundreds of homes. But as the 2008 financial crisis loomed, he recognized the challenges ahead. To adapt, he founded Real Capital Group Property Management, a firm dedicated to helping homeowners and real estate investors efficiently manage their properties. His foresight allowed him to weather the financial downturn and emerge even stronger in the real estate industry.
The Challenges and Triumphs of an Entrepreneur
Every entrepreneur faces obstacles, and for Brock, managing an extensive real estate portfolio presented its challenges. For over two decades, he has managed the challenges of handling payroll consistently. Additionally, he had to refine his leadership approach—learning how to build a strong team and delegate responsibilities effectively. Today, his leadership style is defined by trust and autonomy, allowing his executives the freedom to excel in their roles.
One key achievement in Brock’s career has been bringing in experienced executives across operations, sales, and finance, contributing to notable business growth over the past three years.
The Philosophy Behind His Success
Brock’s success is rooted in his entrepreneurial philosophy, which revolves around three core principles: freedom, creativity, and financial growth. Every business opportunity he evaluates must align with at least two values. He simply walks away if a venture offers financial gain but lacks creative fulfillment or personal freedom.
His business primarily caters to two key audiences: homeowners who relocate and require property management services—often called “accidental landlords”—and small real estate investors who need professional landlord services, including rent collection, maintenance, and general property management.
Looking Toward the Future
As Brock continues to expand his reach, his focus remains on growing Real Capital Group Property Management in Albany and Buffalo, NY, and scaling his coaching business, More Management Fees, which guides aspiring property managers. With an unwavering commitment to innovation and efficiency, he is determined to reshape the property management industry for years to come.
